Stop eating as soon as you are full and satisfied – not stuffed. If you overeat, you may vomit and have pain. Learn to recognize your first sign of getting full. These are called “soft-stop signs” and can be a single hiccup or burp, a sudden sneeze, a sudden runny nose, chest tightness, left shoulder pain, nausea. Lear what YOUR signs are, and heed them.
Vomiting – if you vomit or start to produce copious saliva, you have eaten too much, too fast, have chosen a poor band food, or have forgotten to chew well. You may have had fluids within an hour after eating, or laid down right after eating – avoid these. Avoid vomiting often, as this can lead to band slippage.Frequently Asked Questions

Want to Stop!??
Avoid or minimize gastric irritants that can hurt the stomach. These include certain medications, especially the NSAIDs, coffee, alcohol, and very spicy foods. Some people may need to continue essential medications, even though they are known gastric irritants – please discuss this carefully with your doctor.
Foods that often cause trouble
1. Breads, rice, potatoes, pasta. These stick together and can plug your stoma. Avoid these, as they are poor nutrition anyway.
2. Sticky foods like melted cheese
3. Peels of fruit and veggies – too hard to chew up well. Peel these foods.
4. DRY foods like overdone meat, dry salmon, dry eggs. Add sauces, marinades, lowfat gravies to keep moist, and cook slowly over low heat
5. Foods with MEMBRANES like oranges and grapefruit. Crosscut into small pieces and chew very well.
As you become more experienced with Bandster eating, you will find that you can eat most foods as long as you start with tiny bites and chew very well.
